Iowa Falls-Alden Volleyball Falls in Five Set Thriller at Charles City on Tuesday

The Iowa Falls-Alden volleyball team saw a comeback bid held off in a decisive fifth set, falling 3-2 to Charles City in non-conference action on Tuesday, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ. The Comets won by set scores of 25-19, 25-27, 25-16, 19-25, 16-14. 

In the first set, after a tie at 12, the Comets went on a 13-7 run to claim the set. In the second set, IFA trailed by as many as four and rallied to force a tie at 17. Each team traded scores into extra points, till the Cadets, following a tie at 25, scored on the next two exchanges to even the match at a set apiece. In the third set, after a tie at 14, the Comets went on a 11-2 run to secure the set and a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth set, after a tie at 12, the Cadets built up a four point lead at 22-18 and closed it out from there to push the match to a decisive fifth set. In the fifth set, the Cadets led 10-8, the Comets tied things up at 14 and scored on the next two exchanges to win the match. IFA Head Coach Nikki Allen.

“It’s been a tough run lately. We are struggling right now to figure out how to just go out and win game one. We were ahead and doing well, then we spiral. We fight back, then we spiral and we fight back,” says Allen. “We’re trying really hard to break that pattern. Shout out, they don’t quit. We just have to learn how to not get so down when we lose a couple points.”

Carlea Dagel had 15 kills and Leah Allen added 12 kills to lead the Cadets.

It was the final regular season meeting between the teams in non-conference action, the Comets will be joining the North Central Conference in 2026-27.

Iowa Falls-Alden (11-13) will host Hampton-Dumont-CAL for senior night on Thursday. That match will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
