
Thursday afternoon the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, responded to a residence in Dows on a report of animal neglect.
At 2:19 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s department executed a search warrant at 828 Cardinal Avenue in Dows. Through the execution of the search warrant and on-scene investigation, 41 dogs, 14 rabbits and eight cats were recovered.
Franklin County Sheriff Aaron Dodd says the animals are being treated by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and are receiving all necessary medical treatment for rehabilitation.
The owner of the property was absent at the time of the rescue. Dodd says charges related to animal neglect and abuse are pending in this case.
