Hardin County Election Recap: Emerson Re-Elected Iowa Falls Mayor After Narrow Victory

Iowa Falls Mayor Mike Emerson will serve another term after winning a closely contested race during Tuesday’s city/school election. 

Emerson defeated challenger Gene Newgaard by a vote count of 518-499. 

On the Iowa Falls City Council, four people were running for two seats. Steven Klein and Gumaro Valencia were elected to the council with 552 and 528 votes respectively. Jody Lewis Anderson received 443 votes and Tamra Kjormo received 333 votes. 

Elsewhere in Hardin County, Denny Barnard will serve as Eldora Mayor after running unopposed. Current Mayor David Dunn did not seek reelection. On the Eldora City Council, four people were running for three seats. Scott Swartz with 339 votes, Wesley Dale Landis with 265 votes and Bev Jones with 238 votes were elected to the council. Carey Calloway Morton received 170 votes. 

In New Providence, four people ran for three seats on the city council. Darin Tool (37 votes), Melissa Berends (34 votes) and Lynn Cave (32 votes) were elected. The other challenger was Theresa Landis-Aucoin (16 votes).
