Franklin REC’s fifth annual Light Up the Night event is Saturday, November 29th, a full day packed with holiday fun.

This community holiday tradition will once again feature several activities, starting with an ugly sweater fun run/walk hosted by the Friends of Beeds Lake. Registration starts at 9:00 with the run/walk at 10:00 around the lake.

Madison Alert is the Communications Specialist with Franklin REC and tells RadioOnTheGo News this year’s event reflects on just how much the celebration has expanded since it started in 2021.

“When we started thinking about this, it started small. It started (with) decorating the park, getting a few floats to go down Main Street for kids. And what really sparked it here for us was coming out of that pandemic. And we felt like there was just a spark missing for that first holiday coming out of the pandemic. And our board of directors really felt like we needed to give something back to the community to make it feel like we’re back to home. We’re back to a sense of normal and get that holiday spirit in the air.”

The Hampton Fire Department will host a soup lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the fire station. Santa will visit Peace Plaza in the afternoon with photos and trolley rides.

The lighted parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Seabee’s parking lot and will make its way through downtown Hampton, ending at Band Shell Park. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served at the park where the parade winners will be announced.
