Franklin County Republican Central Committee Chairman Larry Sailer recently announced that he will run for the District 1 seat on the Franklin County Board of Supervisors during the 2026 Midterm Elections.

The seat is currently held by Gary McVicker, who announced that he will not seek reelection. Sailer tells RadioOnTheGo News it is now his time to serve the residents of Franklin County.

“I have talked to lot of people in the running for office and once they get elected, I talk to them and try to give them my opinion of what policy should be. I just decided if it’s something I should do. There’s a lot of things actually coming down the pipeline next few years. We’ve got property tax reform, which will hit counties really hard because we’re pretty well financed by property tax. There’s hot items like renewable energy. We’ve got the (wind) turbines, we’ve got solar panels. I’ve been on the zoning board and I chaired that for quite a few years. So I was heavily involved in some of those ordinances. Did a lot of research on how these different things operate and just background stuff. So, just my experience, I just think I should do it.”

Sailer says his background in agriculture and time with the County Republican Central Committee makes him a good fit on the board of supervisors.

“I’ve been pretty active behind the scenes for about 40 years since the farm crisis of the 80s kind of got me activated. Government was doing some things at that time I wasn’t too happy about. I was a pretty good sized farmer in southern Franklin County and that farm crisis all brought on pretty much by an embargo on our soybeans really harmed the farm economy. It took probably 15 years to dig back out of that so I’ve been really involved in policy and just working behind the scenes just to develop and talk to politicians.”

Sailer says he is running to defend private property rights, lower property taxes and strengthen the county’s infrastructure for the future. The primary election is June 2nd.
