AGWSR Girls Basketball beginning season at Madrid Friday

The AGWSR girls basketball team will play its season-opener Friday at Madrid.

Coming off last season’s 14-9 record, the Cougars have no returning starters. With two regular rotation players and several questions to be answered, Head Coach David Koop looks forward to the non-conference matchup.

“It’ll be a good ‘where are we at’ game,” Koop says. “They continue to get better. They shoot the ball really well. They have a good coaching staff down there, and it’s good to play them, a team we rarely see. And that’s why I like having them on the schedule. It’s kind of nice to just get out of the NICL and go play somebody different for a change.”

Claire Culver and Carlie Hoodjer are back with the most varsity minutes played last season.

Madrid went 7-16 last season, and will also look to make up for some of last year’s lost production. Leading scorer Laura Eagleton is back as a top contributor.

The tipoff will be at 6:30 p.m.
