The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says Hansen-Mueller Company of Omaha has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy effective November 17. The company holds an Iowa grain dealer license.
Producers who sold grain to Hansen-Mueller before November 17 and have not been paid may file a claim with the Iowa Grain Depositors and Sellers Indemnity Fund. Claims must be submitted in writing to both Hansen-Mueller and the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s Grain Warehouse Bureau within 120 days — the deadline is March 17, 2026.
The Iowa Grain Indemnity Fund, created during the Farm Crisis in 1986, provides financial protection for farmers when a licensed grain dealer or warehouse fails. Eligible losses may be covered up to 90 percent, with a maximum of $400,000 per claimant.
Farmers with questions can contact the Iowa Grain Warehouse Bureau at 515-281-5324.
