The city of Allison will see a new but familiar face in the mayor’s seat next month as Tim Junker was elected during November’s city/school election. Junker ran unopposed as current Mayor Scot Henrichs did not seek reelection.

Junker served as Butler County Sheriff for over 20 years and has served on the Allison City Council in the past. Junker tells RadioOnTheGo News he entered the race because, in his words, it “was time for a change.”

“I heard (Mayor) Scot (Henrichs) wasn’t thinking about doing it again, and I was hoping somebody’s gonna run, and I decided that a couple people had asked me if I would run for mayor, and I said, ‘yeah, I think I might do that.’ So I just thought I’d throw my hat in the ring and see what we could do.”

Junker has been a resident of Allison for nearly 50 years and says one of his top priorities as mayor will be growth, as he wants to bring more people into the city.

“We need to find a way to have a new housing development to draw people into this town. Butler County is uniquely situated with the business area in Shell Rock. There’s a lot of employment there and a lot of employees and there’s no place to live. And we really need to prioritize in town to try to develop some kind of a housing development so we can attract people in town, which will help our community out, which will help our tax situation out, which will help our schools out, help everybody. And that’s what we need to prioritize.”

With decades of local service behind him, Junker says he’s looking forward to guiding Allison’s next steps as he moves into the mayor’s office.
