Hampton-Dumont-CAL will host Dike-New Hartford for a non-conference basketball doubleheader Tuesday, which’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

The Wolverine girls (0-2) will go for their first win of the season, having been defeated by Hudson and #10 (2A) Grundy Center in conference play last week. Head Coach Matt Dove describes areas of growth he hopes to see in the near future.

“Just valuing the ball a little bit more, and with that, getting maybe a little bit more of aggressive of a mindset out of our team too,” Dove says. “Turnovers were a problem for us on Tuesday, but when you go back and look at the tape, I think we had some opportunities to get some shots up that we weren’t necessarily ready for, whether that’s catching it on the wing, catching it in the block with the intent of I’m going to go score before I kick out. So I think that all kind of goes into it, but I’d say, number one definitely is cutting down on turnovers because I feel like defensively we’re getting better. If we’re going to limit opportunities for other teams, we’ve got to make sure that we’re not doing the same for them and we’re taking advantage of those opportunities when you get to the other end. And then we’ll just keep hammering on rebounding. I mean, that’s one area that we’ve been really been working on.”

Hampton-Dumont-CAL (1-2) is coming off a 59-15 loss at Clear Lake in Friday’s conference opener. Despite the lopsided loss, Head Coach Miranda Stafford saw glimpses of potential.

“I we did some good things, I thought Madison Heilskov did a good job getting some open looks inside,” Stafford says. “And I told them, in games like this, just try some things, work on some things that are going to help you later on in the year and that you can improve and get better. And if you’re not comfortable with it now, you’re going to get a little bit better. And then maybe next time we play them, you’re going to be a little bit more comfortable with it.”

The Bulldog boys (0-1) have had a week since their last game, a 73-40 loss to Nevada in the season opener. They shot 46 percent with a team-high 19 points by Brady Harr.

DNH (1-1) defeated Hudson and fell to Grundy Center last week. Dawson Dietrick has had a strong start to the season with 16 points per game on 82 percent shooting.

Coverage will start at 5:45 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 6:00.
