The AP/GC boys wrestling team went 2-0 and DNH/G-R went 1-1 at an NICL triangular in Dike on Thursday, as aired on 99 The Wave.
Each team had lopsided wins against Wapsie Valley, with AP/GC winning 62-17 and DNH/G-R winning 54-17.
In the final dual, AP/GC won 48-24 against DNH/G-R. AP/GC’s highlight wins included falls by Brayden Jara at 126, Mason Pruisner at 190 and Maison Copp at 215 and a technical fall (19-3) by Gage Miller at 150. DNH/G-R’s highlight wins included falls by Conner Weedman at 132, Bryce Bass at 175 and Parker Schmitt at 285.
AP/GC had eight wrestlers go 2-0, led by Devan Eberhart at 144 with technical fall and a major decision and Gage Miller at 150 with a fall and a technical fall in contested matches. AP/GC Head Coach Joel Reints highlights a 2-0 start to the new year and what Eberhart and Miller bring to the team.
“Wapsie Valley is always a traditionally tough team and it’s always nice to get a win against them. Same way with Dike-New Hartford, traditionally a tough team. We’ve had some good battles over the last couple years and it’s nice to come out on top,” says Reints. “Those two are kind of finding themselves as the leaders of our team, from a win standpoint and an attitude and effort standpoint in the wrestling room. They do a great job working hard and setting the tone for us.”
DNH/G-R had four wrestlers go 2-0, led by Conner Weedman at 132 and Bryce Bass at 175 who each had two falls apiece in contested matches. DNH/G-R Head Coach Tony Norton reflects on the performance of Weedman and Bass.
“Those guys have been putting in the work. You win it in the wrestling room, by your effort, how hard you’re working and those little improvements that you continue to make,” says Norton. “Those two are both sophomores and they’re making some big jumps right now. I was glad they were able to come out and show some of those big jumps that we’re seeing in the room every night. I’m happy for both of them. Hopefully they can continue to improve like I know they can.”
Both teams will be in tournament action on Saturday, as AP/GC travel to the BGM Invite and DNH/G-R takes part in the Storm Dual Tournament hosted by BCLUW-SH.
