Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig commented on the 2025 Crop Production Annual Summary released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service, noting that farmers faced highly variable weather, disease pressure and ongoing economic strain.

Naig says some areas of the state dealt with excessive rainfall, while others were too dry, yet Iowa farmers still delivered historic yields. He added the strong production comes at a time of tight margins driven by high input costs and low commodity prices.

According to the report, Iowa recorded its second-highest corn yield at 210 bushels per acre and an all-time record corn production of 2.77 billion bushels. Soybeans also set a state yield record at 63.5 bushels per acre, with total production ranking third-highest at 596 million bushels.

Nationally, both corn and soybean yields reached all-time highs in 2025.
