The West Fork girls basketball team went 11-12 during the 2025-2026 season, snapping a streak of five straight winning seasons.
With a brand new starting five, the Warhawks experienced highs and lows, but struggled most with turnovers, recording nearly 22 per game. With only one starter graduating, Head Coach Rodney Huber says ball handling at the varsity level should improve next season.
“The thing that we need to work the most, and obviously having Evie back will help in this regard, but we definitely turned the ball over way too much at times this year,” Huber says. “Even in the Sioux Central game, we had 29 turnovers, and if we cut that down by five, six, cut it in half, we’re winning that game. So really the message to the girls is we need to have multiple ball handlers. Obviously experience will help in that regard, but it’s all about that. If we can clean that up next year, even cut that down by five or six on average, I think we’ll be really, really tough to beat.”
Huber says the personnel and depth dictated playing zone defense throughout the season, but he hopes to be more versatile on that end of the floor next season.
“I think defensively we definitely want to get back to some of the things that we’ve done in the past. We played a little bit more zone than I would like to. And nothing against coaches that play zone or anything like that. But that’s not really a staple of what we want to do. We want to dictate what the other team is doing and be a little bit more aggressive. We still played some zone in the full court as well, but we’ve really hung our hats on being very disruptive and playing some run and jump full court press and playing fast, and we didn’t have the depth for that this year. And also being young on top of it, it took a little bit more time to gel as a half court defensive unit. So we definitely want to get back to playing defense the way we know we’re capable of. And I think we will have the pieces for that.”
Brylee Dickman was the only senior to depart the program. Leading scorers Zada Huff and Evelyn Hitzhusen will be back to lead the team along with several underclassmen who gained varsity experience.
