
Authorities in Cerro Gordo County are investigating a single-vehicle accident that occurred Thursday afternoon.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 4:04 p.m. to the area of 300th Street and Orchid Avenue, northwest of Mason City. Officials say 52-year-old Ray Oppman of Belmond, was driving eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, while navigating a curve near railroad tracks, reportedly due to mechanical issues.
The vehicle left the roadway, entered the south shoulder, and crossed over railroad tracks before coming to a stop.
Oppman was treated at the scene for leg pain and later transported by ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City for further evaluation. A passenger, 59-year-old Frank Oppman of Mason City, was treated on scene for minor injuries and declined further medical transport.
Authorities say both occupants were wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed. The crash remains under investigation.
The Iowa State Patrol and the Mason City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
