The Hampton City Council met Thursday in a special session to review the fiscal year 2027 proposed property tax levy, set at $14.85 per $1,000 of assessed value. Mayor Steve Birdsall opened the public hearing, and City Manager Ron Dunt reviewed the proposal. No public comments were made, and the hearing closed shortly after.
Following the special session, the council held its regular meeting. The next fiscal year budget was finalized, with a public hearing scheduled for April 23. Council approved a street closure request for Pit Row’s June 27 street party but denied a parking space closure request from Britt’s Boutique for its March 28 anniversary celebration. Council members Bill Holmstrom, Jeanne Fay, and Jerre Grefe voted against the request, citing concerns over the food truck size, potential generator noise and interference with Main Street businesses. Council member Kristin Roode was absent from the meeting.
Other actions included approval of a resolution for airport fuel farm improvements at the Hampton Municipal Airport, first reading of an ordinance on city chicken regulations, and an increase in police reserve officer pay to $30 per hour.
