The American Legion Post 354 Auxiliary will host a community event later this month featuring service dogs trained to assist veterans and children with autism, and the event is open to the public.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at St. Patrick’s Church in Dougherty. Lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by a presentation and demonstration from handlers and service dogs with Retrieving Freedom.
Retrieving Freedom, based in Waverly, trains and places service dogs for veterans with disabilities and children with autism with a mission of changing lives.
A freewill offering will be accepted during the event, with organizers encouraging donations to support Retrieving Freedom’s work.
Organizers ask those planning to attend the event to RSVP in advance to help with food preparation. Additional information or reservations can be made by calling or texting Dennis Campbell at 641-425-4398.
