The Hampton-Dumont-CAL soccer teams will take on Webster City in North Central Conference matches Monday.
The boys will host the Lynx on 104.9 KLMJ. The Bulldogs (1-0-2) will look to build upon last week’s 2-2 tie against Humboldt, where they couldn’t maintain momentum on offense in the second half. Junior Hunter Rieken leads the team with four goals scored, but says the defense also needs to take a step forward.
“Our defense is very new, we only have one returning guy who’s played a lot,” Rieken says. “So our defense really needs to keep practicing. They’ve been doing good. And with us returning offensive players, it’s good having us go at them. So I think it’ll be good in the coming weeks.”
Webster City (1-0-1) also tied Humboldt by a 1-1 score in their last game. That was after a 3-0 win over Charles City in the season opener. Having given up just one goal so far, the defense has been the difference maker.
The Bulldog girls (0-1) will look to continue building toward their first win. They showed progress in last week’s 5-2 loss to Humboldt with two goals scored by Victoria Flomo. Webster City (1-2) is coming off a 5-0 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden Friday. They won each of the three meetings last season, all by shutout.
Both games will start at 5:30 p.m.
