A Waterloo man has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 34-year-old Christopher Dante Roby was sentenced May 7 in Cedar Rapids to 30 months in federal prison. Roby pleaded guilty Dec. 8, 2025, to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors say Roby admitted that he illegally possessed a Taurus 9 mm pistol in December 2024. Authorities say Roby had previously been convicted of multiple felony offenses, including first-degree burglary, domestic abuse assault strangulation with injury, felon in possession of a firearm and intimidation with a weapon.
Roby must also serve three years of supervised release after his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Roby remains in U.S. Marshal custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waterloo Police Department.
