Latham Elected as Chair of ASTA

Tuesday, John Latham, of Latham Hi-Tech Seeds in Alexander, was elected as Chairman of the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA).

Latham has been in the seed business nearly all of his life. His grandparents started Latham Seed Company in 1947 as an oats company. The company became a soybean-only company when it was owned and managed by the second generation of Lathams.

John Latham served as ASTA’s North Central Region Vice President from 2012-2018 and Chairman of the Seed First Political Action Committee from 2015-2018. He has also served as chairman of the ASTA’s Corn and Sorghum Division, as well as the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee.

According to its website, the American Seed Trade Association was founded in 1883, and works on behalf of the seed industry to promote the research, development and movement of quality seed to meet the world’s demand for food, feed, fiber and fuel.

John Latham’s father, Bill, served as ASTA Chairman from 1997-1998.

John Latham will take office on July 1st.
