Fire destroys a large garage in Mason City
Wednesday about 8:40pm the Mason City Fire Department was called out on the report of a detached garage on fire at 698 15th Street Southeast. Fire crews arrived to find a fully involved fire in the large garage, as well as to vehicles, a wooden fence, and a tree. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading into the house or other structures nearby, but some heat damage was found on nearby properties.
The most probable cause of the fire was due to a malfunction on a vehicle that was parked in the garage, and the fire had filled the inside of the garage before it was noticed. The garage and the vehicles are a total loss.
