City of Thornton approached about a food pantry for the community

The Thornton City Council this week voted to accept sealed bids through June 17th concerning the sale of a fire truck. The bids must be at least 25-hundred dollars.

If no bids are accepted, the truck could be donated to the U-S Ambulances for Ukraine program.

In other business the Thornton council discussed a food pantry project for the city. Crisis Intervention Service received a grant through the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation to build, place, and stock pantries in each town in the county. Crisis Intervention would like to install one of these pantries in Thornton in collaboration with North Iowa Mutual Aid.

Crisis Intervention Service will install the pantry and do the initial stocking of it. The hope is that others will step forward and volunteer to keep the pantry going in Thornton.
