Four vehicle accident on south side of Iowa Falls sends two to the hospital
Yesterday about 11:35am the Iowa Falls Police Department received the report of a multi-vehicle accident south of the Iowa Falls airport along Highway 65. An Iowa Department of Transportation crew was painting lines traveling northbound on Highway 65. The flow of traffic slowed down and backed up behind the DOT crew. A semi-truck and trailer combination driven by 55-year-old Roger Kaldenburg of Alden ran into the back of a 2018 Dodge Durango driven by 67-year-old Rita Balvanz of Eldora.
The impact forced the Balvanz vehicle into the back of a pickup truck driven by 70-year-old James Axtell of Iowa Falls, who in turn was forced into the back of a car driven by 91-year-old Aletha Anderson of Williams. The vehicles driven by Balvanz and Axtell ended up running off the road to the right.
Balvanz and a passenger in her vehicle, 12-year-old Sawyer Stolee of Radcliffe, were both transported to the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for treatment of unknown injuries. A combined 62-thousand dollars in vehicle damage reported.
