Recent precipitation helping to improve the drought conditions in Iowa
The precipitation that fell across Iowa in the last week has started to put a dent in the ongoing drought.
Through Tuesday, the latest U-S Drought Monitor Report shows almost 10 percent of the state is drought free, compared to 2-point-26 percent last week.
The severe drought category dropped in coverage area by 12-point-74 percent, while the extreme drought category dropped in coverage area by 7-point-73 percent.
In the broadcast area, northwestern Hancock County is listed as being abnormally dry, while western Hancock, western Wright, and southwest Hardin County are in a moderate drought.
The rest of the local area is in either a severe or extreme drought.
