Grundy Center Girls Track & Field in action Thursday

The Grundy Center girls track & field team will be in action Thursday as part of a home coed meet. It’ll be the first home meet of the season after the postponement of Tuesday’s meet.

The Spartans are coming off a third place finish at last week’s Comet Early Bird Girls Relays at BCLUW. Highlights included several first and second place finishes in the relays, a first place finish by Ellery Luhring in the 400-meter dash, a second place finish by Laney Dole in the 800-meter run, and a runner-up finish by Allison Koch in the high jump.

Head Coach Todd Rohler says while performing well at home is important, he wants to see continuous growth against conference competition throughout the season.

"We always want to perform well at home," Rohler says. "The conference meet is a different animal. Last year, it was an eye-opener. Seeing those teams at every meet throughout the year has raised their awareness level of how tough that meet is. I'm not big into having to win every meet. I want to compete against ourselves and show improvement every meet."

Other local schools at the meet include AGWSR, Aplington-Parkersburg and South Hardin. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. in Grundy Center.
