Dike-New Hartford bringing seven boys track & field events to state

The Dike-New Hartford boys track & field team left Thursday’s state qualifying meet with three automatic qualifiers. When the qualifier list was announced Friday, the team more than doubled its participation, and is bringing seven entries to Des Moines later this week.

The 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley teams qualified automatically. Jerek Hall in the long jump, Braxten Johnson and Nick Reinicke in the shot put, and the shuttle hurdle relay team qualified as wild cards. Head Coach Will Reingardt says the state meet will be an opportunity for his student-athletes to lay it all on the line in their final week of the season.

"Not everyone gets to be part of it, it's an accomplishment," Reingardt says. "Being able to bring a big group of kids down there, create some memories, compete with the best of the best in the state, be on the blue oval. For the seniors, it's their last time competing. It's the memories, being with the guys for another week."

The state meet is May 18-20 at Drake Stadium.
