Bulldogs to aim for monumental upset at Clear Lake

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Girls Soccer team begins postseason play Wednesday at Clear Lake.

In this Class 1A Region 6 Quarterfinal, the Bulldogs will look to pull off the upset against the 8-4 Lions. H-D-CAL has faced Clear Lake twice already this year, and will try and avoid a 10-0 result for the third time. The Bulldogs lone win came against Wright County in the first week of the season and will shoot to replicate that performance.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL Girls Soccer Head Coach Ben Schlachter says the game plan for Clear Lake is simple.

“If we have a full squad there, basically it’s just gonna be, do your job, play your position, and we have that. We just have to play good soccer, if we play good soccer the rest will take care of itself.”

Senior captain Gina Schmit is the goalkeeper for the Bulldogs. Schmit says that she’s pumped for the fight against the Lions.

“I’m super excited for it. I think it’ll be a really good matchup. Anything can really happen. So, I think it’ll be a really good challenge for us… they were our first game of the season, so I think it’ll be a really good comparison from where we started to see where we’re coming in [towards] regionals.”

Schmit also adds that being a captain of the group entails verbal responsibility.

“It really kind of just means being super talkative and communicative and just trying to keep the whole morale of the team up all the time regardless of what the score is, or where we’re at, what we’re doing. [I’m] just making sure that everybodies where they need to be and just keeping everyone up all the time.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Girls Soccer match with Clear Lake starts at 7:00 p.m. With pre-game coverage on 104.9 KLMJ at 6:50 p.m.
