AP/DNH thrashes New Hampton, earns first playoff win
The AP/DNH boys soccer team dominated New Hampton 7-1 to earn its first postseason win in program history Monday in Clear Lake.
The United scored three goals in a six-minute span in the first half and carried a 3-1 lead into halftime. Four more goals allowed the United to pull away in the second half and cruise to the historic win. Head Coach Perry Bernard recognizes the historic moment for the program, but says a tough test is ahead.
"I'm extremely excited," Bernard says. "This is definitely one I wanted to get. We're still a new team, and we're making progress. We got knocked out right away last season, but now we're moving on and we've got a tough game ahead of us."
Ty Luhring led with a season-high three goals, Walker Weedman scored twice, and Jackson Mulder and Cole McCumber each scored once. The United (10-7) advance to a substate semifinal game at #4 (2A) Webster City on May 22, a game that'll air on 99 The Wave.
