Grundy Center Boys Track & Field sending 14 entries to state
The Grundy Center boys track & field team dominated at Thursday’s state qualifying meet in Dike, and will be among the best represented teams at this week’s state meet. The Spartans will bring 14 entries across 11 events to Drake Stadium.
Junior distance runner Kaden Lynch will take part in four events. He was the district champion in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, but says the 4x800 was the most impressive title of the night.
"Even though this feels good, what I'm really most proud of is the 4x800," Lynch says. "We managed to PR by 19 seconds, so we jumped up lots of places with a lineup we've never put together. It's good to see all my teammates come together and do something like that."
Lynch will be joined by teammate Emerson Vokes in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Other qualifiers include the distance medley, Tyler Venenga and Brennen Sager in the 800, Tiernan Vokes in the 110-meter hurdles, Tate Jirovsky in the 400-meter hurdles and high jump, Trent Cakerice in the discus and the 4x400-meter relay.
The state meet is May 18-20 at Drake Stadium.
