Falcon Girls Soccer welcoming Union for postseason opener

The Aplington-Parkersburg girls soccer team will begin its postseason Wednesday by hosting Union in a 1A Region 8 quarterfinal game.

The Falcons enter the postseason after a 6-7 regular season that saw the team quadruple its win total from 2022. Despite being on a two-game skid, the Falcons have played well since the beginning of May, going 3-2 in that span. The Falcons have been led by Carley Hook and Cadence Bertram, who have combined for 20 goals. Aplington-Parkersburg will be in search of its first postseason win since 2017.

The 4-10 Knights have lost two straight entering the match, and have gone 2-8 since splitting the first four games. Avery Knoop and Molly Grote have each scored eight goals.

It’s the first meeting of the year between the North Iowa Cedar League opponents. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 99 The Wave and the opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:00.
