Falcon Girls Soccer rematching with Hudson in regional semifinal

The Aplington-Parkersburg girls soccer team has earned a regional semifinal appearance, and will take on #10 (1A) Hudson on the road Tuesday.

The Falcons advanced with a 3-1 win over Union in last week’s playoff opener, their first playoff win since 2017. The win moved AP back to .500 at 7-7, and they’ve gone 4-2 since the start of May. Head Coach Cory Goetsch says the Pirates will present a challenge, but it’s one they’re ready for.

"We're excited about it," Goetsch says. "Hudson is always an excellent team, and we look forward to playing them. They play good, clean soccer, and it's the kind of soccer we like to play against. They've got some dynamic players on their team, but we can fight through it, score it, and get after it."

The 11-2 Pirates are the top seed in the region, and advanced with a 1-0 win over Decorah last week. Savannah Schneider is by far the leading goal scorer, with 26 on the season. No other team member has more than five goals. The teams met in Aplington on Thursday, May 11, a 3-0 Hudson win.

Tuesday’s game will air on 99 The Wave. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:20 p.m. and the opening kickoff is scheduled for 5:30. The winner will advance to take on either Denver or Columbus Catholic in Thursday’s regional final.
