Cadets to head to Cedar Rapids for postseason contest with Xavier

The Iowa Falls-Alden Girls Soccer team will take on Cedar Rapids Xavier Tuesday night in a Class 2A Region 1 Semifinal contest.

The Cadets are winners of seven out of their last eight, with the only loss coming to Aplington-Parkersburg. IFA recently knocked off Belmond-Klemme 2-0 in the first round in a game that saw freshman Joslin Johnson and sophomore Adessa Gillespie each score goals. The 13-3 Cadets now face one of their toughest matchups of the season against the 7-5 Saints.

Cedar Rapids Xavier will enter the contest after four consecutive low scoring shutouts. Freshman Macie Herting is their leading scorer with 10 goals this season, and sophomore goalie Alena Kunz has put up a save percentage of 89.8%. Iowa Falls-Alden’s leading scorer, Abigail Ites, has not played in the team’s last four games after starting the season with 37 goals in 12 games played.

Cadet’s junior Abigael Andrews will come into the contest leading the state in assists, with 26.

The matchup will be the first of the GoBound era, and the winner will advance to the Regional Final to take on the winner of Grinnell and Waverly-Shell Rock. 104.9 KLMJ will broadcast the game, as the first kick is at 7:30 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 7:20 p.m.
