Falcon Girls Soccer season ends in regional semifinals

The Aplington-Parkersburg girls soccer team had its season end with a 3-0 loss at #10 Hudson in Tuesday’s 1A Region 8 semifinal round.

The Falcon offense was unable to come up with the needed offensive firepower to contend. The Pirates tacked on goals near the beginning and end of the first half to take a 2-0 halftime lead. While the Falcons were able to come up with more possession time in the second half, the shots remained minimal. A late Hudson goal stretched the advantage and helped seal their win. Head Coach Cory Goetsch says the Hudson defense was too much to handle.

"Hudson was a tough team, they were quick out there," Goetsch says. "We battled. We made some adjustments to try to deal with what we were seeing out there. I thought we played a lot better in the second half than we did in the first half. We were goal-hungry, we just weren't able to find the back of the net and get through that defense."

The Falcons came up with just six shots and two on goal. Kaylee Johnson had 17 saves. The Falcons end the season 7-8 overall. Hudson moves to 12-2 and will play Denver in Thursday's regional final.
