Bulldogs to play for state berth in Webster City
Hampton-Dumont-CAL Boys Soccer will continue their postseason Wednesday night as they travel back to Webster City for the Class 2A Substate 2 Final.
The Bulldogs square off against the Lynx for the third time this season and will need to beat them for the first time since 2019 in order to be awarded a state berth. H-D-CAL fell 2-1 to Webster City early in the season at home, but more recently the Bulldogs lost 6-1 on the road in their third to last game of the regular season. H-D-CAL defeated Clear Lake in Monday’s second round contest, coming back to win 2-1. Bulldog forwards Alex Hernandez and Bryan Vazquez Espinosa each scored a goal within the game's final 15 minutes to stun the Lions in Webster City.
The Lynx carry a superior record of 13-1, compared to H-D-CAL’s 11-5 overall season. Webster City has also not lost since Humboldt in the second game of the season back on April 3. Following the 2-3 defeat, the Lynx have rattled off 12 wins in a row behind junior Eduardo Perez and sophomore Eddy Fuentes’ efforts on offense, combining for 41 goals this year.
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL Boys Soccer team gets underway at 7:00 p.m. in Webster City. 104.9 KLMJ will broadcast the contest, and will start pregame coverage at 6:50 p.m.
