Wolverine Girls Soccer handles Clear Lake in regional semifinal

The #11 (1A) Dike-New Hartford girls soccer team took care of business in Tuesday’s regional semifinal, defeating Clear Lake 5-0.

Camille Landphair began the scoring with two goals in the first half, followed by one from Lucy Varney for a 3-0 halftime lead. The score remained 3-0 for most of the second half, but late goals by Alexie Heminover and Gentry Swarts helped seal the win. Head Coach Kat Bering says her team picked up the pace and played with the urgency required in the postseason.

"We came out here saying that we needed to set the tempo," Bering says. "It took a little time at the beginning. We did set the tone, but the tempo wasn't quite there yet. When we kicked into gear and put our foot on the gas, we ran away with it. You want to be peaking in the postseason, and we did that. We've been talking about each time we step on the field we need to step on the gas a little more, get the tempo higher. We definitely did that. The other thing that's clicking is finding each other. We're finding other players to score, finding other players to mix it up. We rely on our defense. And of course Miranda, no one has a keeper like Miranda. So we're set."

During the game, Landphair recorded another career milestone, her 50th assist.

The Wolverines are now 10-6, and will travel to #4 Gilbert for Thursday’s regional final, a game that’ll air on 99 The Wave.
