Falcon Baseball welcoming Gladbrook-Reinbeck for NICL tilt Wednesday

The Aplington-Parkersburg baseball team will close the May portion of the schedule by hosting Gladbrook-Reinbeck Wednesday in a North Iowa Cedar League crossover game.

The 4-1 Falcons have picked up momentum, winning their last four games since a season-opening loss. In fact, all four wins have come on the road, including a doubleheader sweep of Columbus Catholic on Tuesday. Freshman Benny Waller is an early standout at the plate, leading the team in hits and runs batted in.

The Rebels have several more games of experience, entering the game at 7-6. An up and down season started 5-1 before a five-game losing streak. They got back on track with a doubleheader sweep of East Marshall Tuesday, where the bats came alive with 20 combined base hits. Drew Eilers leads offensively with a .343 average and a team-high 12 hits. The Falcons will dodge ace pitcher Will Kiburis, who maxed out his daily pitch count by throwing 111 pitches between the two games Tuesday.

Wednesday’s game will air on 99 The Wave. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m., and the first pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
