Clarksville and North Butler battling for bragging rights Thursday

Butler County’s Class 1A baseball teams will battle for bragging rights Thursday when Clarksville hosts North Butler in a non-conference tilt.

After winning three of four to start the year, the Bearcats have lost two straight, and will look to get back on track. A key will be finding an offensive rhythm back, as they scored only one run in Tuesday’s game against Saint Ansgar and Wednesday’s game against Osage.

On the season, freshman Brody Wangsness leads the team in batting average with a .286. Senior Corbin Lewis and junior Lucas Goodrich each lead the team with 4 RBI’s. Wangsness has done the bulk of his work on the mound, boasting a 1.62 ERA in 13 innings pitched.

It’s been a rough start for the Indians, who are 0-4 after a 12-0, 6-inning loss to Don Bosco Tuesday. Of the four games, only two have gone the full seven innings due to the run margin rule. So far, senior Eric Laures leads in hits and batting average. Junior Aiden Morrison has compiled a 3.00 ERA with the lead in innings pitched.

North Butler leads the Bound era series 13-2, including a 13-12 win in Allison last year.

Thursday’s game will air on 99 The Wave. Pregame coverage will start at 4:50 p.m. and the first pitch is scheduled for 5:00. The softball game between the schools will air on 104.9 KLMJ at 7:00.
