North Butler Volleyball has New Head Coach
North Butler volleyball enters a new season under the leadership of first year Head Coach Sarah Goodrich and four returning seniors.
Formerly an assistant, Goodrich is taking on the head coaching role after veteran head coach Jamie Osterbuhr stepped down during the offseason. Goodrich says she is ready to pick up where previous leadership left off and start a new chapter.
"I am truly just excited in this new position and trying to start where we left off last season with Jamie Osterbuhr and the coaches before her," says Goodrich."We're just excited to have a new start and we're just excited to start our season."
Goodrich says led by Bearcat seniors the program used offseason programs and the start to the new season as a time to develop together.
"It's going honestly really well. We have four returning seniors this year that have really stepped up and have been leading in and outside the gym. We had alot of girls that wanted to get better this summer, coming to open gyms, our speed and agilities, and lifting this summer. It's been a great start, their hungry, they want to get better, and they are all working really well together. It's been a great experience so far."
The four seniors returning are Lauren Fleshner, Kacey Wiebke, Mollie Buss, and Reagan Mulder. Goodrich says each contributes something different.
"Lauren and Kaycee in the middle, really just go against each other every single day pushing each other. Mollie really showed her leadership this offseason, getting more people in for open gyms and Reagan is really trying to coach up our underclassmen setter, that will hopefully see some varsity time as well."
Fleshner had 66 kills,Wiebke had 69 kills and Buss had 76 in 32 matches, while Mulder completed 196 assists in 2022.
The Bearcats first match is at Northwood-Kensett on Thursday, August 24.
