Bearcat Volleyball Falls on the Road at Osage Thursday Night
The North Butler volleyball team fell 3-0 at #15 (3A) Osage in a Top of Iowa Conference match Thursday night. The Green Devils got out to early leads in the first and second set, closing each set out 25-13 and taking a 2-0 lead. In the third set the Bearcats led the majority of the set and then the Green Devils went on a run late to take the set 25-19 and secure a match sweep.
North Butler Head Coach Sarah Goodrich says Osage is a talented team with great leadership and she is proud of her team's effort against a ranked opponent.
"It's always bitter-sweet, it kinda calms down the nerves alittle bit and it allows us just to kinda relax and play our game," says Goodrich. "We know that Coach Tabbert's a very great coach and he has great team here in Osage so, we knew that it was going to be tough but I would never fault our girls effort tonight."
The Bearcats were led by Olivia Dralle and Kaycee Wiebke with three kills apiece, and Colby Wix added two kills. The Bearcats return to the court Saturday to compete in the Belmond Klemme Volleyball Invite. Goodrich says the Belmond tournament is filled with exceptional local competition and is excited to see how her team takes on the day.
"Were excited, this effort and this team that played tonight, were excited to see what our season has to bring. We know it's some great competition, we've seen alot of them play in the past. This is a tournament that we go to every year so, we know what their defense kind of looks like. We are just excited to bring this team, with this energy and play together and hopefully come home with some wins."
The Bearcats move to 3-7 on the season and their first match at Belmond tournament, Saturday is against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura at 10 a.m.
