Warhawk Football Meets North Butler for Homecoming Game
The West Fork football team meets North Butler for their Week 3 matchup and homecoming game Friday night in Sheffield.
The Bearcats are 2-0 after winning their Class A District 3 opener at South Winneshiek 22-14 in Week 2. Head Coach Jordan Vanderloop says the Warhawks have a variety of playmakers on offense that the Bearcats have to be prepared to lock down.
"We've played them acouple of times the past few years, their a good team, you gotta take them serious otherwise they can come out and do alot of things against you," says Vanderloop. "It's not one of those where you can just show up and win, they are a very talented team. They got a talented quarterback that rolls out and throws a good ball. They got some recievers that can make some plays. Some running backs that can find the hole and do alot of damage to you, if your not ready. We have to come ready to play and ready to go against them."
The Bearcats, in Week 2, were led by sophomore quarterback Brody Wangsness with 109 passing yards, 54 rushing yards and 2 TD’s with one passing and one rushing. Senior running back Tanner Arjes had 54 receiving yards, 32 rushing yards and two TD’s. The Bearcat defense was led by senior defensive tackle Hunter Rademaker’s 9.5 tackles.
The Warhawks are 1-1 after falling in their Class A District 2 opener at home to Mason City Newman Catholic 47-7 in Week 2. Head Coach Daniel Westhoff says he was impressed by the Bearcats Week 2 performance and says the Warhawks have to improve in applying work in practice to game day.
"That's a significant win, that's an impressive win and just kinda illustrates the challenge we got coming to town, we got to improve on our performance and execution," says Westhoff. "I thought we had a good week of practice last week, you know, and that felt fine and dandy, but that's got to translate to Friday night and it didn't against Newman, it needs to this week. We gotta have another good week of practice, it has to translate. Were in for a dogfight, I have no doubt about it, so their going to be ready to go, we need to be ready to go."
The Warhawks, in Week 2, were led by Sage Suntken, who passed for 57 yards and a touchdown, Blaine Schultz on six carries rushed for 61 yards, and Cayde Eberling had three receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown. The Warhawks defense this season is led by senior linebacker AJ Anderson with 13.5 tackles.
West Fork leads the all-time series 5-4. North Butler won last year’s meeting 20-0 in Sheffield.
The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ with the Roling Ford Road to the Dome Warm-up Show beginning at 6:15 p.m. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m at the West Fork High School Football Field.
