Bulldog Football Faces West Marshall in Home Opener
The Bulldogs are 2-0 after a 34-7 win at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in Week 2. Head Coach Cole Miller says the Trojans play with an up-tempo pace and a key source of Bulldog offense has been the rushing attack.
"It looks like offensively they like to get into power formations and run the ball on you," says Miller. "Defensively it looks like their somewhat of a three front team, with alot of linebackers flying around making plays, looks like their very aggressive on defense. It should be an exciting match up for us and it will give us a different look than we've seen the first two weeks. It starts with the rushing attack, in that first week in Iowa Falls, that second half we got the run game going and then the pass game was able to play off of that. We got our run game going against Clarion and then we were able to just use that the entire game, didn't have to get off the run game and had some success with it. It starts with the running game and then the pass game will play off of our run game. If we can have success in the run game it will open up passing lanes for us."
The Bulldogs are led by senior dual threat quarterback Gavin Meader who had an all-state level performance in Week 2 as he rushed for 169 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 64 yards and a touchdown. Senior running back Brody Walton rushed for 109 yards against the Cowboys and senior wideout Tucker Heeran added 60 receiving yards and a touchdown. Defensively, senior defensive back Tate Murray collected six total tackles.
The Trojans are 0-2 after a 48-13 loss at South Hamilton in Week 2. The Trojans are led by senior quarterback Carson Davis who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown and passed for 35 yards in Week 2. Junior running back Ben Gonzalez is the Trojans leading rusher with 103 yards. Defensively, sophomore linebacker Kinnick Geers has 13 total tackles.
West Marshall won the last meeting, 48-12 in State Center in 2020.
Five Bulldog athletic legends will be honored at the game including former Head football Coach Jerry Shafrath, track and cross country runner Amanda Huling Rahmiller, three sport athlete Taryn Barz (volleyball, basketball, softball), four sport athlete Brad Abbas (football, basketball, baseball, and track), and the 2007 boys state golf championship squad.
Kickoff is at 7:00 pm at the Hampton Football Field.
