Cadets Football Looks for Win #1 as they host Clear Lake in Week 3 Matchup
The Iowa Falls-Alden football team returns home to face Clear Lake in final non-district game in Week 3. It is also Armed Forces Appreciation night in Iowa Falls.
The Cadets are 0-2 after a 35-14 loss at rival South Hardin in Week 2. Head Coach Eric Walkingstick says facing tough opponents is valuable to the progression of the team and the Lions provide that Friday night.
"When we had this one circled on the calendar, we know this is going to be a tough game for us but it's a great way to end non-district play," says Walkingstick. "We need those tough games because you know if you are playing teams that you can be very easily, sometimes you get a false sense of reality and for us we know now that we still have to go back to work. This week is gonna be a tough game, I'm not gonna lie, but it's non-district, we have to be able to grow, we have to be able to trust that process of development. Any time we get to play the game of football, it's why we do it, you never know what is going to happen on any given Friday night."
The Cadets are led by senior dual threat quarterback Jaden Damiano who has 309 passing yards, 142 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and senior receiver Nick Regan has added 93 receiving yards and a touchdown this season. Defensively, senior lineman Trevor Bailey has secured 22 total tackles.
The Lions are 2-0 with a 48-0 shutout victory at home over New Hampton in Week 2. The Lions are led by senior quarterback Cael Stephany with 323 passing yards and four touchdowns, junior running back Titan Schmitt with 280 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and junior receiver Thomas Meyer with 165 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, senior Aidan Hartl leads the way with 9.5 total tackles.
Clear Lake won last year’s meeting 42-0 in Iowa Falls.
Kickoff is at 7:30 pm at Cadet Field.
