Local cross country teams to compete at Sam Iverson Invitational Thursday
Several local cross country teams will compete at Thursday’s Sam Iverson Invitational hosted by Grundy Center. Aplington-Parkersburg, Clarksville and South Hardin will be among a diverse field.
The Spartan boys enter as the favorites, with three of the top four times represented. #6 (1A) Emerson Vokes enters with the fastest time of 16:19.30. Teammates #15 (1A) Kaden Lynch and Tyler Venenga have the third and fourth fastest times among the field.
The girls race could be a toss-up, but two ranked runners will pace the field. #2 (2A) Hillary Trainor of Sumner-Fredericksburg and #7 (2A) Amilia Condon of Union enter with the fastest times.
With nine North Iowa Cedar League teams in the field, Aplington-Parkersburg senior Ashley Schipper says it’ll be somewhat of a preview of the conference meet.
"There's definitely going to be a lot of people in the conference there," Schipper says. "It'll be good to see where we're all at. It's about getting better every race and see where it goes as the season moves on."
Action will begin at 4:45 p.m. at the Grundy Center Town and Country Golf Course.
