Cowboys Football will host Forest City for Homecoming Game Friday Night

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team will look to re-establish rhythm as they host Forest City in district play and for homecoming game.

C-G-D is 2-3 and 1-1 in district play after a 31-14 district loss at Estherville-Lincoln Central last week. Cowboys Head Coach Caleb Vogel hopes the Cowboys enjoy a fun homecoming week however he emphasized to his team the importance of remaining engaged in preparation for and action during Friday night’s matchup with Forest City.

"It's gonna be another big game, it is homecoming," says Vogel. "Homecoming is a great week, it's a lot of fun, the kids enjoy it, but also can be full of distraction. We are going to try to limit those distractions as much as we can, just take it one day at a time. Come to practice, play fast and play hard, understanding the schemes of what Forest City does, and just have fun with this week as it's homecoming and be ready for the Indians come Friday."

The Cowboys offense has led with the run producing 768 rushing yards. They’re led by senior running back Diego Gonzalez with 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns and senior receiver Colin Kirstein with 275 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The Cowboys defense has done a great job of forcing turnovers with eight fumbles, which is tied for the second most in Class 2A and added five interceptions.

Forest City is 2-3 and 1-1 in district play after a 7-0 district win at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura last week. They’re led by junior quarterback Ty Dillavou with 777 passing yards and four touchdowns, and senior running back Sam Klaassen with 417 rushing yards and six touchdowns. The Indians defense has 32 tackles for loss which is tied for the eight most in Class 2A, and senior linebacker Grant Wooge leads Class 2A with 53.5 total tackles.

C-G-D won last year’s meeting 28-6 in Clarion.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. in Clarion.
