Dike-New Hartford earns NICL crossover sweep of South Hardin Tuesday

The Dike-New Hartford basketball teams swept South Hardin Tuesday in an NICL crossover doubleheader. The #1 (2A) girls won 66-32 and the boys won 62-46.

The Wolverine girls bounced back from Monday’s loss to #5 (4A) North Polk, but the Tigers remained in striking distance for most of the first half. DNH led 14-10 after a back-and-forth first quarter. Early in the second quarter, Alli Sheldahl hit a jumper to bring the Tigers within two at 14-12. A few possessions later, a Maryn Bixby corner three sparked a 12-0 run that put the Wolverines in front by double digits, where it remained the rest of the game. The Wolverines put the running clock rule in effect in the second half and cruised to the win. Dike-New hartford is now 16-2 and South Hardin is 5-13.

The DNH boys got off to a hot start, and used two small scoring runs to lead 19-7 after the first quarter. A Devon Lotts three-pointer late in the second quarter doubled up the Tigers at 34-17, which was the halftime score. Midway through the third quarter, a Colin Meester three gave the Wolverines their largest lead at 42-19, but South Hardin pulled to within 46-32 at the end of the third. The teams traded buckets throughout the fourth quarter as the Wolverines sealed the win. DNH is now 10-8 and South Hardin is 7-10. The Tigers will be at Hampton-Dumont-CAL Thursday and the Wolverines will host Grundy Center Friday.
