HD-CAL Hosts IFA in Soccer Season Opener on Thursday

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Iowa Falls-Alden soccer teams will experience the thrill of playing in a season opener when they meet in a doubleheader in Hampton on Thursday.

The HD-CAL girls will look to build upon a two-win season. The IFA girls enter as the defending North Central Conference champion after they went 13-4 overall and went 2-0 against the Bulldogs last season. IFA Head Coach Morgan Vierkandt says it is a great local game between friends.

"It's a game that we always look forward to," says Vierkandt. "These girls have had a lot of summers where a lot of the Hampton girls came to Iowa Falls and played some pickup games. Their is a lot of friendships out there and their is gonna be a lot of good competition. It's always a fun one when you can start this close to home."

The IFA boys prepare to take the next step after a winless campaign last season. The HD-CAL boys went 11-6 overall and 2-0 against the Cadets last season. HD-CAL Head Coach Danielle Arana says she hopes to see a strong outing from the Bulldogs in a competitive rivalry meeting.

"I'm hoping that we can just go in there and we can start really strong, we can start the season strong, and the game strong," says Arana. "We were able to pull it off last year a couple times. I know that they were struggling a little bit with their numbers and stuff like that. I'm hoping they have a full team this year and I'm hoping they can give us a run for our money. I hope that we also pull off a really good win."

The first game begins at 5:30 p.m.
