Cadet Softball beginning postseason at West Marshall Thursday

The Iowa Falls-Alden softball team will begin its postseason Thursday with a trip to #14 (3A) West Marshall in a 3A Region 5 quarterfinal, a game that’ll air on 99 The Wave.

The Cadets (8-16) will enter the postseason after an improved regular season, with its highest win total since 2021. Near the end of the regular season, they snapped a five-game losing streak with a 15-0, three-inning win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in the North Central Conference finale. On Monday, they held close at West Marshall in the regular season finale, which was a preview of the first round playoff game. Freshman Isabelle Janssen quickly solidified herself as one of the conference’s best players, ranking second in the league with a .474 batting average. She also ranked third in the league with 33 stolen bases.

West Marshall (23-8) enters the playoffs on a four-game win streak, having defeated South Tama 12-0 in four innings on Tuesday. After a strong start to the season, the current win streak followed a span of four losses in five games. Three players bat over .400, led by Jillian Karsjen with a .422 average. A freshman-sophomore tandem of starting pitchers holds opponents to 2.37 runs per game.

Pregame coverage will start at 6:40 p.m., followed by the first pitch at 7:00. The winner will advance to Saturday’s regional semifinal against either Forest City or Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
