There was an issue with power outages Thursday before the strong thunderstorms hit the local area.

At just before 3:30pm Thursday, MidAmerican Energy reports that around 550 of their electric customers experienced a very brief outage, which lasted about two minutes or less.  A smart device on MidAmerican’s system automatically restored that circuit.

But then, less than two minutes later, MidAmerican lost power on the transmission line that connects to the Sheffield substation, which in turn, services the area.  At one point, there were 1,267 customers without power.

Crews were dispatched to the area, and just after 6:15pm around 550 customers had their power restored, with the remaining customers coming back online about 10 minutes later.

The cause of the power outages is under investigation by MidAmerican Energy.
