“It’s nice to see some hard work we’ve been putting in this season paying off. We’ve been lowering our times and we finally had a nice day to run and hopefully we can keep lowering them and get there at districts and state,” says Archer. “Our hard work and just being there for each other has really paid off. I hope that it can continue to through districts next week,” says Vanderloop. “It felt pretty great knowing I had all of my family and friends here to support me, I just knew that something good was going to happen,” says Janssen. “It’s really motivating, I think it really keeps us going and it just overall motivates us to do better,” says Phipps. “I agree the motivation is nice we have all our parents on one side and then our teammates on the inside of the field. It just feels nice to be cheered on for the whole time it really helps us,” says Archer.
Hampton-Dumont-CAL
1st in discus, Charlee Morton – 143-02 (New Conference Record)
1st in shot put, Charlee Morton – 49-09 (New Conference Record)
3rd in 400m hurdles, Lily Hambly
Morton on a pair of record breaking throws in her final conference meet.
“Once I heard that 49, I was shocked, so surprised and so happy because that’s a big throw especially for high school girls. I don’t think a lot of people realize how big of a throw that is in high school,” says Morton. “That felt really good too. Just getting some consistent throws for discus feels great. I’m excited to keep on working more and getting good qualifying distances at the district meet going into state.”
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows
1st in high Jump, Makayla Beisel – 5-04 (Tied Conference Record)
2nd in 100m hurdles, Makayla Beisel
2nd in 400m hurdles, Makayla Beisel
Beisel on a fourth straight conference title in high jump.
“Today was supposed to be mainly like a training day. We did a lot coming to this week in order to be ready for districts next week. My quads were a little tired. I’m just glad that I managed to match my PR today,” says Beisel. “Definitely cool to be able to say that I won it all four years. It’s something that I love and I hope that I can take it a little longer. I’m going to miss people and that, but I feel ready for it to be done. It’s going to be bittersweet.”
Up next, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will be at Nevada Invite on Monday before the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Grundy Center on Thursday, May 15. Hampton-Dumont-CAL will be at the Class 3A state qualifying meet at Decorah on May 15. Iowa Falls-Alden will be at the Class 2A state qualifying meet at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on May 15.
