AP, DNH Girls Tennis advances in team regional bracket Friday

The Aplington-Parkersburg and Dike-New Hartford girls tennis teams advanced to regional semifinals during first round team postseason action Friday.

In Region 4, the Falcons won 5-2 at Clear Lake. After dropping two singles matches, they won the first completed doubles match to clinch the dual. They’ll play at Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday.

Hampton-Dumont-CAL fell 6-0 at Waverly-Shell Rock. All singles matches were completed despite the Go-Hawks clinching after five.

Dike-New Hartford earned a 5-0 win at South Tama. All but #6 singles were completed to clinch the dual, with Aida Tott at #2 and Addy Joslin at #3 not giving up a game. They’ll play at Grinnell Tuesday.

Grundy Center fell 5-0 at Grinnell. Makenna Steinmeyer was the closest Spartan to a win, falling 11-9 in a tiebreaking third set.

In Region 1, Iowa Falls-Alden beat Nevada 5-2 in Fort Dodge, winning the first completed doubles match to advance. Later in the day, they fell 5-2 to St. Edmond.

In Huxley, Ballard defeated South Hardin 5-2. The Tigers got wins by Abby Teske at #1 singles and Payton Weig at #3 singles, both winning by two games in tiebreaking third sets.
