A Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested last week after being charged with disorderly conduct and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
The Iowa Falls Police Department alleges that 51-year-old John Wallace Crom the Third of Mason City was at The 503 Bar and Backyard in the 500 block of Estes Street on May 17th, when officers received a fight call at the business around 11:30pm.
A woman with a bruised face told the officers that Crom had struck her. Surveillance video from the bar allegedly showed Crom grabbing the woman by the arm and punching her in the face with a closed fist.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department is treating the situation as a confidential personnel matter.
The disorderly conduct charge is punishable by up to 30-days in jail, the assault causing bodily injury or mental illness charge is punishable by up to 1-year in jail.
