Hoff takes over as AP Activities director

Carter Hoff was recently named the new high school activities director at Aplington-Parkersburg. He has replaced Jason Berkey, who served in the role for 11 school years.

A 2015 AP alum, Hoff began his educational career at Aplington-Parkersburg as an elementary and middle school PE teacher. He’s also served as a coach for middle school basketball, middle school track & field, and high school baseball.

“Being an AD is something, kind of a goal of mine that I’ve always strived for,” Hoff says. “Having a unique opportunity to be an AD at the district that I graduated from and I’ve taught and really AP is all I know, I’m really excited and really grateful for the opportunity.”

In addition to his work for the district, he has served as a color commentator for RadioOnTheGo’s Falcon Football broadcasts.

Hoff feels he’s gotten a head start due to his previous relationships and knowledge of the district, and says his predecessor has been a valuable resource during the transition time.

“Mr. Berkey has been a great resource for me. I definitely have had to call him a couple of times a day for him to answer my questions. Mr. Thomas has also been a great resource. He was the AD before Mr. Berkey and has experience in that sort of role. So I’ve been really trying to pick their brain and see, what are the things that I need to get in place? And they have a lot of advice, and Mr. Berkey has a lot of those good relationships with other ADs. So he’s kind of been helping me out establishing those. There’s just a lot of little things behind the scenes that you don’t really know until you’re in that leadership position. So I’m kind of finding those out and just doing the best I can to learn and do my job well.”

Some of Hoff’s initial objectives include making sure the rest of the summer sports season runs smoothly and finalizing upcoming fall sports schedules.
